The Aviation Diary

Editorial Policy

Last updated: August 2026

This policy explains how The Aviation Diary prepares news, reference material, directories, automated data features, and community or user-submitted content.

Accuracy and Sourcing

We seek to verify editorial material through primary or authoritative sources whenever practical, including aviation authorities, accident investigators, government and military public-affairs offices, manufacturers, airlines, airports, museums, event organizers, official records, reputable news organizations, aviation databases, and direct interviews.

We distinguish confirmed facts from preliminary information, allegations, analysis, opinion, and unverified claims. Developing information may change as additional evidence becomes available.

Aircraft Encyclopedia

Aircraft profiles and specifications may be assembled from several sources. Differences among variants, operators, configurations, dates, units, measurement methods, and sources are resolved using the best evidence reasonably available. Records may be corrected or expanded as better information becomes available.

Directories

Airport, museum, and airshow records may use official websites, public records, organizers, aviation datasets, local sources, and reader submissions. Dates, hours, exhibits, facilities, and access rules can change and are not independently reconfirmed every time a listing is viewed.

Automated Live Data

Live aircraft information and Flight Board records are automated third-party data rather than independently reported editorial conclusions. Aircraft data may be supplied by adsb.lol and Flight Board information through AeroDataBox where identified. Records may update automatically and can be delayed, incomplete, duplicated, misidentified, or unavailable.

AI-Assisted Workflows

Automated and AI-assisted tools may help with research organization, transcription, data processing, formatting, summaries, drafting, classification, duplicate detection, or database maintenance. They do not replace editorial responsibility. Editorial material intended for publication is reviewed and corrected as appropriate.

Submissions, Images, and Attribution

Tips, comments, photographs, video, corrections, and event information may be reviewed, edited, verified, declined, or removed. Contributors must have the right to submit their material and should disclose relevant interests.

We may use original, licensed, authorized, official, public-domain, embedded, or properly credited third-party media. Copyright remains with the applicable rights holder unless stated otherwise.

Independence and Corrections

Editorial decisions are not controlled by advertisers, sponsors, airlines, manufacturers, government agencies, military organizations, airports, event organizers, or data providers. Commercial material is identified when applicable.

Material factual errors are corrected when supported by reliable evidence. Significant corrections may receive an explanatory note; routine spelling, grammar, formatting, style, or clarity changes may be made without one.
