This Privacy Policy explains how information may be processed when you visit or interact with The Aviation Diary website, mobile applications, and related services.
Information You Provide
We may receive information you voluntarily provide through email, forms, comments, account features, news tips, corrections, media submissions, surveys, advertising inquiries, or other features.
This may include your name, email address, message, account information, submitted content, and related metadata.
Do not send passwords, payment information, precise location histories, government identification numbers, medical information, or other sensitive personal information through ordinary email or public forms.
Mobile App Accounts
If you create a The Aviation Diary mobile-app account, we may process information needed to create, secure, and operate your account.
This may include:
- username;
- display name;
- email address;
- email-verification status;
- account preferences;
- notification preferences;
- profile photo or avatar, if you choose to provide one;
- legal-consent records;
- authentication and session information; and
- account-security information.
Passwords are used to authenticate your account. Do not send your password to The Aviation Diary through email, ordinary website forms, support messages, or privacy requests.
The mobile app may also maintain private account features such as saved or followed aviation interests, alert preferences, and Passport/Stamps records when you choose to use those features.
Information Collected Automatically
The website, mobile app, and their service providers may process technical information such as IP address, browser and device information, operating system, pages or screens viewed, referring pages, timestamps, approximate location, interactions, diagnostics, and security logs.
Cookies, pixels, similar technologies, server logs, browser local storage, or device storage may be used to operate features, remember preferences, measure usage, prevent abuse, maintain security, and support advertising where applicable.
Precise Device Location
Your browser or device controls whether precise location permission is granted.
For the website’s Nearest Airport Flight Board, precise coordinates may be used within the browser to identify the nearest supported airport. Once an airport is selected, its airport code may be used to request flight information.
In The Aviation Diary mobile app, precise device location is optional. If you choose My Location, the app may process your device coordinates as needed to provide nearby aviation information.
You may decline location permission and use available manual location options such as city, ZIP or postal code, airport name, or airport code instead.
Precise device coordinates are not automatically attached to public social posts.
Location-related requests may generate ordinary technical or security logs depending on the infrastructure used to provide the service. The Aviation Diary does not represent those logs as a personal location-history feature.
Approximate Location and Search Values
The Aviation Diary or its providers may derive a general location from an IP address for security, analytics, advertising, content relevance, or non-precise features.
Airport, museum, airshow, flight-school, nearby aviation, or other location-based tools may process a city, ZIP or postal code, state, airport code, airport name, search radius, or other location value that you enter to return results.
These values may appear in ordinary technical or security logs unless configured otherwise.
Nearby Aircraft and adsb.lol
Nearby and live-aircraft features may use data from adsb.lol or another identified provider.
When a feature loads or a search is performed, the provider or infrastructure connecting to it may receive ordinary technical request information under its own policies.
The Aviation Diary does not control a provider’s independent collection, retention, use, or availability.
Flight Board and AeroDataBox
The Flight Board may use AeroDataBox where identified.
When flight information is requested, AeroDataBox or the infrastructure connecting to it may receive the relevant airport code and ordinary technical request information.
The Aviation Diary does not control AeroDataBox’s independent practices or availability.
Push Notifications
If you enable mobile notifications, The Aviation Diary may register a device push-notification token and process notification preferences and delivery-related technical information needed to provide and troubleshoot notifications.
You can control notification permission through your device and available TAD notification settings.
Notification permission is not required for ordinary guest browsing.
Analytics and Advertising
Analytics services may measure visits, app or feature use, audience patterns, performance, errors, and referrals.
Advertising services may use cookies or similar technologies to deliver, limit, measure, or personalize ads where permitted.
Their processing is governed by their own policies and available consent controls.
Third-Party Services
The Aviation Diary may rely on aircraft and flight-data services, maps, video players, social embeds, analytics, advertising, hosting, security, email, forms, aviation databases, notification services, external links, and APIs.
Loading or using these services may allow a provider to receive information such as an IP address, device information, page or screen address, and other ordinary technical information.
Third-party services are governed by their own privacy practices.

Retention and Security
Information is retained only as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it is processed, including operating the service, maintaining security, preventing abuse, resolving disputes, complying with applicable obligations, and processing privacy or deletion requests.
No website, mobile application, transmission method, or storage system can guarantee absolute security.
We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information and the services being provided.
Mobile Account Deletion
Registered mobile-app users can initiate permanent account deletion inside The Aviation Diary app through:
Account → Password & Security → Delete Account
If you no longer have access to the app, you may request account deletion through:
https://theaviationdiary.com/delete-account/
or by emailing:
The current TAD mobile account-deletion process removes account-scoped data handled by the deletion flow, including:
- your TAD subscriber account;
- mobile app account preferences;
- active mobile login sessions;
- registered push-notification tokens;
- Passport/Stamps records associated with your account; and
- your account-owned TAD profile photo or avatar, when present.
Account deletion is permanent and is not temporary deactivation or account freezing.
Information or material submitted separately from the mobile account system — such as an editorial tip, correction, business inquiry, or other independent website submission — may be handled under the retention practices applicable to that separate submission.
Certain limited records may be retained when reasonably necessary for security, fraud or abuse prevention, compliance with applicable legal obligations, dispute resolution, enforcement of applicable agreements, or documenting and processing a privacy or deletion request.
Any information retained for such purposes is not treated as an active TAD user account.
Your Choices
You may:
- decline precise location permission;
- use available manual location options instead;
- manage cookies through your browser;
- clear applicable browser or device storage;
- use available privacy or consent controls;
- manage notification permissions through your device;
- update available TAD account preferences; and
- request permanent deletion of your TAD account.
Disabling certain technologies or permissions may limit some functionality.

The Aviation Diary is intended for a general audience and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.
Age-related app-store requirements, parental-consent requirements, and other protections may apply depending on a user’s age, location, and the features being used.
