Alaska Tokyo flights will connect Anchorage with Tokyo Narita beginning May 13, 2027, under a new route plan announced by Alaska Airlines on Oct. 27. The carrier intends to operate the international service with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and has opened ticket sales, while noting that government approval is still required.

The announcement also includes seasonal nonstop flights from Anchorage to Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and Nashville. Those U.S. routes are separate from the transpacific service, with different start dates and schedules. A planned route is not a completed inaugural flight.

Alaska Tokyo Flights: Dates and Aircraft

According to the airline announcement, the Anchorage-to-Narita leg is scheduled for daily operation in summer 2027, with the first departure May 13. Return service is due to begin May 14. The carrier lists September dates for the initial summer daily schedule and plans three weekly winter flights starting in January 2028.

Alaska selected the 737 MAX 8 for the route. The company said that variant has the range needed for the Anchorage–Tokyo service within its fleet, distinguishing it from shorter-range aircraft that might suit domestic sectors but not this international leg.

Both the airport and carrier specify that government approval is required. Customers should therefore check confirmed operating schedules and current conditions when booking. Publication of an intended timetable does not guarantee the launch will occur unchanged or that every departure will operate.

Anchorage Network Adds Three US Cities

Alaska also plans weekly Saturday flights from Anchorage to Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and Nashville from June 12 through Aug. 7, 2027. These domestic services are summer additions rather than year-round schedules under the initial announcement.

The airline characterized the changes as its largest-ever nonstop schedule from Anchorage. That assessment is the carrier’s description of the proposed network. It combines an international Asia-Pacific link with additional U.S. destinations, giving travelers more itineraries that would otherwise require a transfer at another hub.

The Anchorage airport’s official schedule announcement corroborates the new routes and dates. It is especially useful because government airport information and airline publicity can differ in how they display time zones, arrival-day changes and conditions.

What the New Route Means for the Airline

An Anchorage–Narita nonstop could support business travel, tourism and links between Alaska and Japan. Actual passenger numbers and profitability remain unknown until service begins. Market interest and introductory ticket prices indicate a commercial launch plan, not evidence of sustained demand.

The announcement follows a difficult financial quarter for the airline group. TAD recently reported Alaska Air Group’s third-quarter loss. That earnings result and a planned new route should be evaluated separately; expanding a network does not establish that the new service is already profitable.

Flight length and aircraft economics will make the choice of the 737 MAX 8 important for operations. The carrier must still obtain approvals, schedule crews and coordinate handling at Narita. The Oct. 27 statement did not provide a passenger demand forecast or a verified revenue projection for the specific route.
