American Admirals Club expansion plans at Charlotte Douglas International Airport call for a new lounge exceeding 40,000 square feet, which would make it the largest Admirals Club in the carrier’s network. American announced the project as part of its premium-travel investment at its Charlotte hub.
The lounge will occupy mezzanine-level space overlooking the airport atrium. The airline expects construction to begin during 2026 and says current Admirals Club locations will remain available while the new facility is built.
No public completion or opening date accompanied the announcement. The plans describe a proposed passenger facility, not a lounge already serving customers.

American Admirals Club Proposal Tops 40,000 Square Feet
American says the planned lounge will provide views over the atrium and organize different sections for work, dining, relaxation and other passenger needs. The airline lists shower suites, bar areas and food service among the amenities intended for the finished facility.
The new space follows an earlier announcement about expanding lounge facilities at Charlotte, including the airport’s first planned Flagship lounge. American has not provided a construction budget, contractor list or final floor plan in the announcement reviewed by TAD.
Construction at an operating airport must be phased around passenger movement and building access. For travelers, an early construction milestone is less important than which facilities remain accessible during work and whether entrances or walkways are temporarily rerouted.
Existing Charlotte Lounges Will Stay Open During Work
American says its existing Admirals Club locations in Concourses B and C/D will remain open during construction, along with its Provisions by Admirals Club concept near Gate A1. That commitment is part of the current plan and should be checked against airport notices as work progresses.
Charlotte is one of the airline’s major connecting hubs. American says it serves more than 180 destinations in 27 countries through the airport and operates over 650 peak daily flights, figures that explain the scale of travelers using its terminal facilities.
Those hub statistics do not indicate how many passengers qualify for lounge access. Entry remains subject to membership, qualifying status, relevant credit-card privileges or other eligible options, with fees and terms determined by the airline.
Premium Lounge Strategy Builds on Charlotte Hub Growth
American’s design description emphasizes Charlotte-area character, including its tree canopy and textile heritage. Those are intended visual themes for the planned lounge, rather than operating features that can be tested before construction and opening.
Airlines invest in lounges to improve the experience of eligible passengers during connections and delays, especially in large hubs. Whether the proposed space reduces crowding will depend on its final capacity, the distribution of passengers across concourses and actual usage after opening.
The October announcement does not say that the project will add airline gates or directly expand runway capacity. The planned benefit is principally inside the passenger terminal: more dedicated lounge space at an airport with a large connecting network.
